Job Description
ANZSCO Code: 312512 – Mechanical Engineering Technician. Eva Marine & Industrial Engineering Ltd is an Auckland-based marine and industrial engineering company providing mechanical maintenance, repair, inspection and engineering support services to commercial vessels, ferries and industrial clients. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team and support the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and improvement of marine and industrial mechanical equipment and systems. The successful applicant will work closely with engineers, vessel crews, technicians and contractors to maintain and improve the reliability and performance of mechanical equipment. Responsibilities
- Inspect, test and assess mechanical machinery, equipment and components to identify faults and deterioration
- Carry out planned preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment
- Diagnose mechanical faults using technical information, engineering drawings, manufacturer manuals, measurements and diagnostic equipment
- Maintain and troubleshoot marine propulsion systems, auxiliary engines, pumps, generators and associated mechanical systems
- Assist engineers with the planning and implementation of mechanical maintenance and reliability programmes
- Assist with the installation, modification, commissioning and testing of mechanical equipment
- Conduct equipment condition assessments and identify potential mechanical failures
- Investigate recurring equipment defects and assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, equipment specifications and technical documentation
- Carry out measurements, inspections and technical assessments of mechanical components
- Assist with machinery alignment, testing, commissioning and performance checks
- Inspect completed repairs and verify work meets engineering specifications and manufacturer requirements
- Prepare maintenance reports, inspection records, equipment histories and other technical documentation
- Assist with identifying and sourcing suitable mechanical spare parts, components, tools and equipment
- Coordinate mechanical maintenance activities with vessel crews, engineers, contractors and suppliers
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to mechanical technicians and trades personnel where required
- Assist engineers in identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, safety and maintainability
- Maintain accurate records in the company's maintenance and asset management systems
- Ensure all work complies with New Zealand health and safety requirements, maritime requirements, engineering standards and manufacturer recommendations
Requirements
- A relevant qualification in mechanical diploma, mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or a related field
- Relevant experience working with mechanical machinery and equipment
- Experience in marine engineering, vessel maintenance or industrial mechanical maintenance is highly desirable
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and equipment manuals
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience with preventive and corrective maintenance
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports and maintenance records
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical maintenance team
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- A current New Zealand driver's licence or ability to obtain one, where required
